That's what he said when he was first arrested. I tend to believe it. From the sounds of things it was kind of a spur of the moment deal. I think he got obsessed with it, which I don't think was unusual that week. But Ruby had access to cops, which gave him access to Oswald. I get the feeling he was there, saw his chance and took it. He probably was seen as a hero at the time, but the cops and courts had to send him away, what with his committing murder on live tv. It's probably safe to say we're still talking about a lone nut.

Later on he had other tales to tell, but I think between the cancer and being in prison, he'd descended into madness somewhat.
