If they're anything like the latest generation of "night vision" cameras on some high end general aviation aircraft, they are nothing like the kind of stuff you see on TV.

They don't get completely washed out by other light sources and are mostly used for "seeing" through weather, clouds, fog, etc. and they work very well.
