Chilled_stoli's thoughts on their dancing:
great question.
my two cents:
"I was part of a dance company as a child in the early 90s (when "flashier" dances were just becoming more de rigeur for kids that traditional ballet). What I DO know is that the students who stuck strictly with ballet over time acted more conservatively and the jazz, modern and tap students acted sexier, I knew this even at a young age, probably because nurture around them told them they were sexier subconsciously (just like ballet dancers "feel" more sophisticated during dance than in real life)
So I think it's part the TYPE of dance the students are doing and part how society observes them and responds. Little girls dancing sexy is only sexy if people tell you it is, otherwise it's just dance. If that makes sense."
