Evelyn Duenos "agonised" over the decision to sell her virginity to the highest bidder but decided it was the only way to raise money to support her mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
The 28-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant, who is a medical student, said the wages she earns as a cleaner in Valencia on Spain's southeastern coast were not sufficient to cover her mother's care back in Ecuador.
"I saw adverts placed by other girls and it made me think hard about doing the same thing," she told Spanish media.
"It was not an easy decision to make because I never thought my first time would be with a stranger.
"But I am not doing anything wrong - I'm not doing this out of greed or stealing anything from anybody," she insisted. "I am doing this out of love for my mother and that is all that matters."
Miss Duenos, who described her upbringing as "very religious and very proper", has imposed strict conditions on the sale.
The winning bidder must provide a medical certificate showing he is clear of sexually transmitted diseases, agree to wear a condom and allow her to be accompanied to the "appointment" by someone she trusts.
In turn she will produce a medical document to certify that she is a virgin.
The online auction has already attracted a bid of 2,350,000 euros - just over £2 millions - an offer rejected by Miss Duenos because the man wanted her to have sex with her regularly.
"There won't be kisses and caresses," she said. "I'm just offering one night in a hotel."
