http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/07/17/Newsman-Walter-Cronkite-dies-at-92/UPI-58181247878099/NEW YORK, July 17 (UPI) -- Walter Cronkite, a broadcast journalism pioneer who became known as the most trusted man in America, died Friday in New York, CBS News reported. He was 92. Cronkite suffered from cerebrovascular disease, which affects vessels that supply blood to the brain. His family issued a statement last month saying he was "very ill and )was) not expected to recuperate." Cronkite anchored the "CBS Evening News" for two decades, beginning in 1961 until his retirement in 1981 at age 65 -- reporting on the Cold War, civil rights, the assassination of President John Kennedy, Vietnam, Watergate and the U.S. space program. In a 1972 poll, Americans named him "the most trusted man in America." Cronkite was a reporter's reporter for more than half a century in a career that carried him from World War II foxholes to the Great Wall of China to the launch pad of the U.S. space program. Cronkite's national reputation as a journalist began at United Press, the forerunner of United Press International, where he honed the writing skills that became the hallmark of his later reports for the CBS television network. His sign-off each evening, "And that's the way it is," is among the most familiar quotations in television history.

Cronkite dines in Hell tonight. Well, that's what I would believe if I believed in that sort of thing.

After the US pull out of Viet Nam, MILLIONS were slaughtered in the region. The skulls were stacked on top of each other in huge piles. Think Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot etc.
Millions were slaughtered? Which millions and where?
In Cambodia, approx. 2.5 million people died, mostly from starvation (caused by Khmer Rouge policy) not directly at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. I would hardly call that slaughter.
Where else "in the region" were people "slaughtered"?
How dare you address me directly after welshing on the $500 you owe me:

You're like the board dunce. You keep butting in with annoying questions and incorrect points like a 10 year-old. ("Germans are not an ethnic group!", "America was just part of 'the coalition of the willing' that beat the Nazis - not the prime factor!" ETC ETC ETC. Now, we've got a pile of 2.5 million skulls and your retarded point after wikipedia research (lol)- "they weren't all killed in the same way!".
If you had any self-respect, you'd disappear from this board until you're capable of paying the $500 you gave your word would be paid under set conditions. What's this excuse I hear? You had your fingers crossed? It was in "the cage"? Bla bla bla. Whatever, liar.

So what Cokehead is basically saying is that Cronkite was more powerful than all of the Republicans/conservatives put together.
That sounds like a pretty shitty political party. Either that or, once again, it's another case of blaming others for ones own failures.

Freepedophiliah: Damn you're a simpleton. Not all of Jews killed by Nazis were gased in showers or baked into jewloaf in ovens. Many were killed in different ways. For example, some might have developed an infection after their teeth with gold fillings were yanked with pliers. The word "slaughter" usually refers to how farm livestock is butchered. I guess none of the 2.5 million gooks were killed that way if you want to only allow for the literal meaning. 2.5 million died nevertheless. It was a genocide.
Run along now, eurotrash. Go shoot some kiddy porn.
Worm: Claiming I said something I didn't say. Not worth responding to.

I'd like to know, how YOU feel about something similar that happened to me recently, in the same place as you. What do you think should happen in my case? Or does it not matter because it's someone else? I know you're a no bullshit kinda guy, I dig it. Spill it, honeybuns.
Is there really any question, doll. Now that we beat off together and I've got those magic pics, of course I take your side

It was the Democrats, who got us into that war. The Republicans inherited it. That being said, I do believe it was winnable. I also agree that our own liberal news media, played a big role in helping the North Vietnamese win the PR war. I don't believe in Hell which is too bad, because Cronkite would be burning in it.

It was winnable. Are you doubting the United States possessed the firepower to win the war? We could have easily destroyed its ports and turned Hanoi into another Dresden.
Agreed. Once it was established that we were going to put our troops in harm's way and not just be "advisors" then we should have pulled out all the stops and blown their rice-eating asses to hell. But Johnson was too conflicted by polling results and the whining of the northern state Lib Dems. Since he had lost all of his southern Dem support over the Great Society programs, he had to give into the Libs and so he tried for a "compromise" which did nothing but condemn thousands of young people to death.

This thread is starting to sound like a bunch of disillusioned Germans complaining about how they should've/could've won World War 1. ........ if not for the Jews......

OK, that's funny, but Two very different situations. The Germans couldn't have won WWI. Though I'm not sure they couldn't have negotiated for something better than The Treaty of Versailles. The US would have won in VN, if they did what they needed to do, to win. They lost a political war in Vietnam, not a Military one. Militarily, the North Vietnamese were getting beaten, repeatedly.
