Millions were slaughtered? Which millions and where?
In Cambodia, approx. 2.5 million people died, mostly from starvation (caused by Khmer Rouge policy) not directly at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. I would hardly call that slaughter.

Where else "in the region" were people "slaughtered"?
