Air Florida Flight 90 - (scheduled "planned" flight DCA to FLL lay-over TPA - Boeing 737-222) (weather conditions: Mid Winter: COLD & SNOW) (Airline was notable as being "pranked" by then WWDC 101 Morning/Drive Time DJ Howard Stern asking..."How much for a one way ticket from Washington's National Airport to the 14th St. Bridge".)

ValuJet Flight 592 - (scheduled "planned" flight MIA to ATL non-stop - McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32) (weather conditions: End of Spring: Hot & Sticky) (Recovery of the aircraft and victims was made extremely difficult due to the location of the crash. The nearest road of any kind was more than 1⁄4 mi (402.34 m) away from the crash scene, and the location of the crash itself was a deep-water swamp with a bedrock base. The DC-9 shattered on impact with the bedrock, leaving very few large portions of the plane intact. Sawgrass, alligators, and risk of bacterial infection from cuts plagued searchers involved in the recovery effort.)

Only on "main" carriers. I will never get on a flight that is serviced by Comair or Colgan. I will not fly on AirTran because they sub-contract their maintenence work. More often than not, US Air is going whereever I need to get to.

Any distance over 3 hours drive time, I fly.

I usually end up on US Air even though they suck. But they are usually the cheapest option at the time I need to travel. Esp since I have to get tickets last minute most of the time.

whats the drive time from LA 2 Vegas....is it cheaper just to fly or are gas prices in your area moderate?

I've had the worst experiences with American and Southwest... and the best with Virgin, Delta, and Alaskan. Alaskan only because there were no lines.

Domestic I fly Bluestar. Once I flew Airtran which actually had really good service and maybe 6 other people on the flight.

Fortunately, RyanAir has nothing to do with 'our' Ryan. They offer very cheap tickets with no in-flight service. You can fly from Holland to Rome for USD 45 or something. There are a few of these price-fighters: EasyJet, RyanAir, WizzAir, Air Berlin.
this must be a west coast europe thing.....never saw them in the east.....but I wont travel upwards of ATL anymore.

Ryanair is based in Ireland. They have been extraordinarily profitable charging rock bottom prices and charging user fees for everything.
Most recently the CEO suggested they would start charging for use fo the toilets on their flights.

I fly both domestically and internationally a decent amount...
Domestic I prefer AirTran and Continental.
International totally depends on where I am going, but Korean Air as alays one of my faves.
