Afrcan-American is a stupid term when what you mean to say is "black". There are countless white folks from Africa who could accurately be called "African-American" as well as blacks from all over the world who are not African-Americans.

I grew up in the US and it seems like a sort of knee-jerk reaction of most whites to call every black person an African-American.

Black works for all black folks. African-American only works if you also check their ID and make sure they aren't an African-Canadian, or an African-French.

Just saying, that to call black people African-Americans involves making quite a few assumptions about a person.

It would seem to me that this person is an African-American.



Black works much better to describe black people. It's safer not to make assumptions.
