Bon Marche is now Macys. I barely remember I. Magnin when I first moved to Seattle, but they had very exquisite clothes in of an older sophistication. R.I.P. Burdines. I will always remember you. School shopping in the 80's with my mom will always have a special place in my heart.

Lisa Frank has been around that long? No offense (I mean that) I used to be OBSESSED! I had everything. I used to get my stuff at Toys R Us. My parents would take me at least twice a week. IIRC, my little sister stole Lisa Frank stickers when she was 3, so sad but cute. We had no idea. To this day I remind her what a filthy thief she was.

Honestly can you believe we were in to this shit?

omg

so

ghey!

B. Altmans in NYC was one of the best and one of the most beautiful stores in the city, charged the fuck out of that credit card, then they closed and still wanted their money, how dare they.
And A&S (Abraham & Strauss) was the Macy's of that time. A really nice store, very expensive for the time, again charged the fuck out that card.
And Spiegels catalogue was the shit back then, it had some decent stuff and very expensive for stuff that wasn't worth it, at least I didnt think. I still have a pony hair make up bag I ordered from them, Ive had just about every credit card. Oh the damage. I have since learned to stay w/only 2 credit cards and they are for absolute necessities.

Cheap stores in Brooklyn, NY:
Korvettes
May's
John's Bargain Store
Sears always and will be a cheap store imo I dont shop in and have never been in one, only ordered a stove from them in the early 90's through the telephone. No net service then, and if there was I didnt have it. Good stove, but only lasted 8 years. Worth the 300.00 bucks.

^^We had that here to and Something Else, which was considered high end boutique , they are still around. And Pretty Girl for the cholas, such cheap, cheap clothes, and it's still around too. And then there is Forever 21, which I have yet to go to and I dont even know where they are, I dont even know if there is one in Brooklyn.
Express was cool and is still decent for a quick piece of something you need in a hurry.

Oh do you remember Lerners, Plymouth, I loved Plymouth. Wow that was early 80's shit.

Oh we had that too, but it was only in the malls, and we had Capri which was the top of the line mens wear.

All Mall stores are yucky, Wet Seal shoes,

Hmmm that one I dont remember at all, never even heard of it, was it only in Malls, I didnt do malls to much. Now I never ever go to Malls. Our closest is Kings Plaza, but the surrounding neighborhood, just make sure you are armed w/at least a gun in your back belt and one in your shoe.

I think most of my weekends in jr high and high school in the 80's were spent in malls.

I think the majority of 80's who were old enough were spending their times in malls. I didnt like em for some reason, but I went a few times. Kings Plaza was nice way back then, but has changed so drastically over time and I went to New Jersey to a few, they were much better than the NYC ones.
I couldnt imagine them now, full of Hot Topics, Abercrombie, Hollister, Ed Hardy all bullshit stores. Oh and isn't there a JC Penny, Sears and Macys in all malls. They are the staples, correct?
The only thing I like in a mall is the Homemade Pretzel counter and the shoe stores, the better ones, but it's been forever. I prefer going to the outlet stores, there is one in Westbury, Long Island, that's pretty cool.

I'd forgotten about Korvette's.
For the cheap stores add:
Zayre's
Shopco
Grand Way
Jamesway
Stars
Weston's
Present Co.
Service Merchandise
Philadelphia Sales
Ames
Family Bargain Centers

for the cheap stores list:

Bradlee's
Caldor
Clover

Every major electronic store seems to be a ponzi scheme. How long till Best Buy goes the way of:
Circuit City
The Wiz
Crazy Eddie
Silo
Wall to Wall Sound and Video

By the way, I loved Best. Starting when I was about 10, I'd save up the $$ I earned working in the summer to buy something from Best. Most worth while purchase, a 4" B&W Panasonic portable tv. 24 years and it still works, except not with new digital signal

That Lionel's Kiddie City commercial is why the terrorists hate us. When you're straining potable water through a burka, it is hard to fathom pushing your dinars together and buying a miniature Neil Peart drum set for your toddler.

I was involved in a business deal a few years ago with a former CEO of The Wiz. He was a backstabbing, contract-violating piece of shit. When he was with The Wiz, he worked for a chairman of the board who is now the owner of the St. Louis Blues NHL franchise.

Ghetto stores-

Gemco/Memco
Ben Franklin Stores
F. W. Woolworth Company: Woolworth's/Woolco
Service Merchandise
Bradlees
Caldor
Ames Department Stores
Zayre
Best Products

Korvettes...very classy! You are very Wong Foo

the only good thing from Sears is craftsman tools.....I knew a lot of people who went to yard stales and buy a fucked up riding lawnmower because it had its name on it.....if it was still usable ran it till it was dead....took it back to a local retail brick & mortar outlet and demanded a new one.....this was one of their misfortunate mistakes......understanding a hand tool that broke...no matter what price...free replacement for life......good idea/concept.......but to take its this way for something vastly more complex then that.......well it was in the end a big money loser.....

Not staples...that is a STORE.....more like as they say anchor stores

Quote:

As did many other older named DEPARTMENT stores......that’s what ya get when you buy all of Federated Department Stores & May Department Stores....you can change the names to whatever the fuck you like......Macy's just happened to be the only one that they liked.....well enough to keep around.
