The Pelikan idea is good. There are tons of nice, good quality fountain pens out there -- Waterman, Parker, Rotring, etc. The nib is probably more important than the brand name. I had a cheapo parker fountain pen at some point but it's nib was awesome. The more gold content, I think, the softer the nib. I know Rotring used to make devastatingly good rapidograph/tech. drawing pens, as did Pelikan.
My favorite fountain pen used to be a Parker Duofold. Used by many U.S. Presidents and famous for being a favorite of General Douglas MacArthur (used to sign the treaty ending WWII). I sent it back to the factory after dropping it down a flight of stairs and cracking the cap and they fucked up the nib somehow and it never wrote the same way again.

I've used a Pelikan ever since.
