While it is estimated that the average eligible person on disabilty will make about 12k, I'll make a little more than 24k. For me, this money is not taxable.

For the 20+ years I worked I pretty much made "maximum" as far as paying into Social Security. The money you get out is based on the money you put in. This year SS maximum is just under 107k. Which means until you earn 107k, you pay 6.2% of your gross income to SS. Your employer matches that amount [or you do if you are self-employed].

I get far more than my mom. I get a little less than my dad who also made maximum for his working life because I have 4 years of near zero when I was ill previously.
