Owner pulls gun on would-be robber - then gives him cash

When a bat-wielding man walked into a Shirley convenience store and demanded cash, store owner Mohammad Sohail pulled out a rifle in self-defense.

And when the would-be robber dropped to his knees and begged forgiveness, saying desperate economic times had pushed him to the edge, Sohail did the unthinkable:

He put down the rifle - and handed the desperate man $40 and a loaf of bread.

Most of the incident, which Suffolk County Police said was reported in a 911 call at 12:35 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, was captured on a surveillance camera at the Shirley Express.

Those damn muslims show no compassion eh? Probably thought the man was desperate to rob a store..

An Okie pharmacist has been charged with murder for killing a masked ghetto robber. He shot him an extra 5 times, but so what. If you're going to rob someone at gunpoint, you never know what might happen. The pharmacist didn't know for sure if the nig was dead. He had a right to protect himself as he saw fit. This is an outrage! He should also be allowed to shoot the robber's mother. Write your congressman!

If I was called for jury duty on that one, I'd pretend to be totally impartial and then refuse to convict. Just like the OJ jury.

Store owner who helped thief target of raid

Mohammad Sohail, the Shirley Express Convenience deli owner hailed as a hero after he showed mercy to a would-be burglar, has been charged with selling illegal drug paraphernalia, said two sources familiar with the investigation.

Sohail is among seven store owners in Brookhaven and Huntington who were raided by town investigators this week, one of the sources said. Sohail's store ran afoul of town codes that prevent the sale of items such as pipes, bongs and hookahs, a source said. The charges are civil, not criminal, in nature, a source said.

When asked to comment on the charges at his store late last night, Sohail said, "I threw everything in the garbage. I don't want it anymore."
