Going Dutch - How I learned to love the European welfare state
Nice article, which explains nicely how things work over here.
It might be an eye-opener for some of the more anxious reactionary forces on here, but maybe I hope for too much open mindedness. Anyway, have fun.
The article doesn't seem tremendously accurate, it describes your system as having "universal" healthcare coverage, when it's actually state-regulated private insurance. That's significantly different, it costs around €100 a month for the basic cover and is not funded out of that horrendous 52% tax rate, so cannot be used a a valid justification for it. Also, despite being supposedly mandatory, people do fall through the gaps. I know of someone who quite recently avoided seeking medical care in Amsterdam because of the cost.
