Supposedly, Riddick Bowe wants to come back too, now that he's out of jail. I guess he wants even worse brain damage. Even Golota, that fucking mental case, is trying to get back in on the weakest HW division in history.

As far as what boxers I've liked that are still fighting (or were recently), De La Hoya is definitely up there with the best I've seen. I would have said in 1993 that Roy Jones Jr would become one of the best fighters in history, but I'm not sure anymore. He lost something when he moved from middleweight up to light heavyweight. I also thought he'd be one of those guys that retired when they were 30--he was really only on the top of his game when he had some challenge before him, like a lot of fighters are. He gets bored in the ring easily and sometimes just reacts to whatever strategy his opponent is using.

For the last two years though I've mostly been watching live fights, local pros and prospects and amateurs. I was at the Golden Gloves last April and it was amazing, sitting in St. Andrews Gym in the old polack neighborhood in Chicago and watching these bastards fight with their heart. Most of these guys will never turn pro, much less wind up as ranked contenders, but there's such a filthy authenticity about it. There's a whole underground subculture out there among the locals, the sort of shit you normally see at racetracks or whatever. It's been a lot of fun.
