Even with economic conditions as they are, I have one coworker who is paying out something like $1200 each month for his ONE daughter. With no overtime, he's only making like $40k per year, but the courts are basing his payments on earnings from 2-3 years ago when guys here were working 60+ hours each week. I wouldn't blame him for going postal/OJ, because his wife is spending the excess on worthless shit anyway (not on the kid, how typical), as I understand it and the court refuses to revisit the case for another year?

That California law is pure bullshit. Here in Indiana, thankfully, we don't have common law marriage. So you can live with a whore, fuck her brains out & never marry her forever (kinda, I guess). Granted, I'm no Don Juan, it probably works wonders for the part of society with commitment issues.
