Has anyone ever heard of the word IGNORE?! or SKIPPING threads?
Gen, I think you've complained before that the meanness and pettiness here often scares away talent from posting. Where is the right balance to be found?
I put Monsieur in my crosshairs last week for endlessly attacking talent. Specifically it appeared Monsieur was going to go after Melissa Lauren just like Steve Holmes and Brenda, and this was not something the neighborhood mod was going to let happen without a fight.
XXXPT isn't a Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! forum. Someone is always going to tell talent they are too fat while the next post will say they are too skinny. But Monsieur has been at this for months, in over a hundred posts, with no variation or humor value. You can't get talent to post to XXXPT if it gets them their own personal stalker like that, and I don't think anyone had found Monsieur's attacks on Steve amusing after the first few posts.
Things like Sportswami and Outsider are best handled with some gentle suggestion, then a little bashing, and then gang-tackling by the regulars (MattCasey). But in cases like Monsieur the tradeoff may be either having no talent or industry people at all in order to give Monsieur somewhere to post cut & paste attacks. Sometimes people force you to choose me-or-them: you can't always do what everyone wants no matter how hard you're willing to try.
As for Sammura: I haven’t talked to Tony about this yet but I'm thinking of a "detox suspension" - if they show up stoned one night and start spamming, and aren't funny stoned, ban them until morning when withdrawal or a hangover prevents more spam. Think of it as taking away the car keys from a drunk until they fall asleep. I think that's a good middle ground between the black & white choice of a permanent ban.
