Cold as this may be, it's Darwinism in action. Freud postulated the same thing over a hundred years ago. He famously said "anatomy is destiny".
Yes, but this really only holds true for people who start from housing projects or trailer parks. The more "prominent" families use money, contacts, and higher expectations of performance to create successful offspring. Unattractive people trading on their success in other areas to obtain genetic success (good looking mate) is common. Example: the rich ugly man--Donald Trump leaps to mind--who mates with the unknown model from modest beginnings.
This can work for Susan also. Popularity, fame, and money if her singing career works out can lead to the ugly woman who never got kissed dating good looking male gold diggers and fame whores.
