This thread is about one of my heros, Tioga George. He is a full time RVer and a bit of a character. Since 2004, George and his "team" of inanimate objects have been traveling in "Ms. Tioga", his older class C motorhome. They almost always camp in free places, relying on solar power and "boondocking". George has been in Mexico now for over a year, but he had some interesting travels in beautiful places in the western US before that. He went to Canada once, but they wouldn't let him back in.

George is admittedly bipolar. He also is a cancer survivor, the cancer support group he was in was a large part of his beginning to travel. The great thing about Tioga George, and the reason he has so many followers, is that he blogs every day. In addition to his blog, his web site has many pages giving the team's background. It's fun to follow his travels, I've been keeping up with George since around early 2006. He will return e-mails, eventually.

Also... quick question.

When on the road do you still try and hit a meeting every week?. If so, what's that like?. Does your Dayton crew have their own colors and to avoid being jumped in when you roll into a sit down in say Kentucky you have to flash a sign or some shit?. I only ask cause I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be if some transient AA d00d rolled up into my weekly and it was my turn to explain why I whored out the old lady to 3 black guys for a case of Mich-lite and 5 whipits.

I havn't done a whipit in over a decade. I had a fucking seizure from doing them back to back to back. I must have reduced too much oxygen to the brain or something and started "fishing", flopping around like a fish out of water. Its a really intense experience. I was relatively conscious for the whole episode but I had zero control over my body and felt no pain. I thrashing around, having spasms and drooling/foaming at the mouth. I often think that would have been my perfect moment to die. I'm not that lucky though.

Did someone say roadtrip ? Dayton approacheth !

Lou, I look in the phone book under A and find AA. Only problem with being from out of town is they often ask you to be lead speaker at a meeting, so they can have a new out of town speaker. I don't mind. Also, some things from our past are shared in confidence with our sponsors.

Hams don't broadcast, we transmit. Unless you are operating W1AW or something. I like QRPp from the middle of nowhere with a radio I built and a wire in a tree for an antenna.

I don't think I misunderstood exactly. Just that I was trying to speak broadly about something I am not truly familiar with.

Well, ya' know, I just skimmed the wiki article on pulse dialing, and I think if I tried for half a day, I could fuck around and maybe do this. I have a keyer, so I can make and break a switch several times a second if I need to. But, I have other fish to fry.

I am 99.9% CW. My Hexbeam's rotor is kaput, but I could point it your way and talk on 20 sometime. I don't know SSB protocol, all I've ever done on voice mode is check into the AA net about 4-5 times, and talk on a local 2m repeater a couple times. Everybody sounds like Donald Duck on SSB. There's a mike somewhere in that drawer. I guess I just say Charlie Quebec, Charlie Quebec, Delta Echo n8** HI HI

I know if I fire up that AL-80B, you could hear a KW off a HexBeam from Ohio.
