If you want to share your money with the "larger society" then by all means go ahead and do it. Build the parks, plant the trees, help the disabled, give your money to the young people, support the artists and scientists, policemen and firemen...
Just don't do it with my money. Not just because I'm "selfish" and want to hoard fruits of my hard labor for myself and not to share it with ghetto welfare queens, Muslims, bureaucrats, politicians, people living in the third world. The main problem is that every cent I pay in taxes is a cent i can't spend on my two little daughters. And I don't think it's right that the government takes wealth from my family by force and then spreads it around.
Besides, it's not just a moral question. It's easy for liberals not to mind paying their share. That's because their share is very small. Most libs are either poor and pay little in taxes as a result, or rich enough to take advantage of the many loopholes in the law to prevent paying too much in taxes. The whole burden falls on those in between: SMEs owners, businessmen, professionals, contractors-people who actually create the wealth in our civilization. If you tax and regulate all of us into poverty or emigration then there won't be any wealth creation...
I'm not against taxes or even against income tax. Obviously, we need the government to enforce the rule of law, protect us against external threats, provide the citizens with some sort of safety net so no one will die of hunger etc. But it should not invest in things and interfere with the free market. Most importantly, tax levels should be kept low and the system must be fair.
Unfortunately, Obama not only wants to increase taxes but also make system less fair by increasing taxes for some while decreasing them for others. As a result, almost 50 per cent of Americans will pay nothing or almost nothing in taxes. Half of the population will have no skin in the game but will be still allowed to decide the rules for others.
The founding fathers were right; there should be no taxation without representation. Now, people are expected to pay more then a third of their money to the Uncle Sam just as a punishment for being successful while some others will not only pay nothing but will also get free health care. I can't blame those folk meeting at those tea parties for not liking it.
