It isn't a direct addition or subtraction thing. It is a very complicated process involving difficult formulas that take into account age, gender, intelligence, weight, and many other variables.

Besides, it really doesn't kick in until you reach a certain age--usually late 20's or early 30's (unless you are referring to the even more complicated jailbait formulas).
