In the mid 1970s Marilyn Chambers was performing nightly in the dinner-theater comedy "Mind With the Dirty Man" at the Union Plaza in downtown Las Vegas. It was during a period when she was attempting to transform her porn notoriety into more mainstream endeavors. She returned to the Union Plaza showroom again in the late 1970s for an ongoing role in the stage production of "Last of the Red Hot Lovers."

She also performed in the one-woman show "Sex Surrogate" which featured her fully nude on stage at the Jolly Trolley casino. Eventually the show was canceled because full nudity wasn’t permitted in Nevada’s licensed casinos, at least at that time.

While residing in Las Vegas, Chambers and her then husband, Chuck Traynor became partners in The Survival Store, a local gun shop and shooting range. A popular image used to promote the business depicted Marilyn toting a machine gun while clad in a scant bikini.

Chambers remained in Las Vegas through the 1980s after her separation from Traynor, who died in 2002. She dated Bobby D'Apice, who later made headlines as a manager at the Crazy Horse Too strip club. He was sentenced to prison after being convicted for breaking the neck of a customer.

In 1981, while Chambers was a Las Vegas resident, her fame caused a stir at the Clark County courthouse and generated some lively news coverage when she was summoned for jury duty. After a brief appearance, She was dismissed.
