You said it, has been for years. These shipping companies need to go to Blackwater and contract them to have a group of ex-Seals/Special Forces sitting in Aden and jump on the ships as they go around the horn until they are out of harms way. Just cycle these guys back and forth. Give them enough firepower to reach out to pirates before they are in range with AK-47'S and bust their nuts before they have a chance to engage. Shit, blackwater has their own air force also. Shuttle these guys in and out of the dangerzone. It will cost a pretty penny but it's better than paying 10-15 million in ransom everytime they snag one of their boats. Stupid fucks.
