You don't buy a Glock if you're a beginner. I have a Model 20(10mm) and a Model 22(.40) full size. Until we had a kid it was the first choice for home security.

I own quite a few firearms but my first choice for home security is a pump action shotgun.Close range ballistics is awesome and very damaging. You don't have to worry about wall penetration and killing an innocence person in another room like you do with handguns. And the sound of chambering a round in a pump shotgun is a universal language that says get the fuck out before you die.
