I had a similar experience with Pete Rose. Me and a bunch of autograph seeking kids were waiting by the door that players go in and out of to get on the team bus outside of Wrigley Field. He did sign for several kids. I handed him a Pete Rose Fleer baseball card to sign (I had come prepared). He was about to sign it, but then stopped and handed it back. He said he didn't sign any Fleer items because they had not compensated him for the use of his image.

Rose played his cards all wrong when it comes to his ban. He should have claimed he's become a born again Christian and bullshited about his faith for a few years. They would have let him back in long ago.


At a different stadium I witnessed a shouting match full of F-bombs between Reggie Jackson and an old guy who must have been team brass or a coach. Reggie and a woman got on the team bus and then got back off. Reggie was furious because he was told the lady could not be on the bus. He and the ho then took a cab.
