From Canada to the US border crossing hassles are totally unpredictable. Sometimes they check all my ID and grill me about where I work and why an American would live in Canada and so on.

And sometimes they don't even ask for my passport.

I have found it works best to use US ID when going and switch to Canadian when coming home.

Canadian border crossing has been consistent and almost entirely the same each time I've done it.

Oh, and I'm a fairly clean cut white guy, no towel.

Then the only other reason I can think of is you're suspected of smuggling hamster terrorists.

I don't know why, but the most surly and rude Customs/Immigrations people I hav ever had to deal with were in Canada.

I refuse to fly internationally with a stop in Toronto anymore. It just isn't worth the hassles.

I never have a problem getting into Windsor, Ontario but the dickhead Customs Agents at the Bridge or Tunnel across the river in Detroit hassle me every time.

No. They are obsessively clean. And if you use an absorbent bedding like Carefresh instead of wood chips (wood chips are bad for them for a number of reasons) you would probably never ever smell them.

If you use a wire cage they might make a mess of things by throwing bedding/turds out through the gaps.

But as for your question they aren't smelly animals.

The main issue in an RV would be the high likelihood of serious injury. A hamster would probably get thrown around a bit as you drive as well as having the cage accessories move around and squash him.

They are so cute. What's the one you posted? Boy/girl? How can you tell? Is it easy like with cats?... I hate the noises they make they freak me out. But I'm getting better thanks to Conq.
