I'm up. I gave up on trying to sleep a few hours ago and now I'm organizing the billions of pieces of disc based media that I have.
I'll need to go get a huge package of CD cases tomorrow because I'm sick of folding origami ones out of printer paper.

Zopiclone is cheap and works pretty well for me when I use it.
My major complaint, (and I guess this doesn't happen for everyone who takes it) is having a funky taste in my mouth for part of the morning after, like I slept with a few old pennies under my tongue.

ambiens great while youre on it when you try to stop its god awful and you cant sleep for forever ive always had gnarly insomnia it got better from being vegan and working out alot but it still buggs me sometimes i read whe ni cant sleep, or organize my closet till im bored and get sleepy if ts real bad ill go back to the gym and tire myself out thanks 24 hour fitness

If the weed is no good for you, get some old Charlie Chaplin silent films, and watch them in bed. The Gold Rush is sooo long, it took me about 3 weeks to get through it. This practice was much easier with VHS, when you could reset the counter and rewind to zero.

I had good results with little side-effects (ie grogginess) with Lunesta, but I only used it for about a week after lasik surgery.

Seriously though, I've been having dreams way beyond my capacity lately. That is I've been constructing complex Hollywood type dialogue scenes where 3 to 4 people discuss
shit I've never read about and it all makes sense to me, actually, it more than makes sense I actually go "wtf?, where did that come from".
Anyone else ever have this happen?.

Same here. For me it's my night terrors as a child lead to subconsciously refusing to go to sleep therefore, insommia. I link my phobias and addiction as an "adult" to this. I'm not saying all insomniacs are phobic addicts but for me it just fits. My 3 year old son has night terrors and seems to be a bit of an insomniac. Hard to tell if he's just being a defiant little jerk or is seriously too scared to sleep. All doctors go with "defiant little jerk with terrible 3's.

I took ambien when it was first approved and I was living in the states. I think you will find memory loss to be less of an issue with zopiclone. Let me know how things turn out.
If I'm not mistaken there is a class action suit against the makers of ambien in the states because of all the bizarre and dangerous things people would do while under the influence then never remember.
While I was on the stuff one night I decided to leave my bed and sleep on the back porch. I have no memory of it though.
Also w/ zopiclone don't feel too tempted to take more than the recommend does, it is absolutely useless as a recreational drug unless your idea of fun is having really foggy memories. What I'm saying is that past 10-15 mg of the stuff you won't really notice much difference aside from wasting your pills.

I use to have dreams like that too, I even use to have dreams where I was reading some complex novel and thinking 'where the fuck is this coming from?' but of course once you wake up it fades right away. I wonder if it's as brilliant as you think it is or if that's just part of the dream.
Regarding insomnia, I suffer from it on a pretty regular basis, lately I've been working later in the office at work so now my sleep schedule is all fucked up. I've had a few days off now though since I banked overtime so hopefully I can get my shit back together.

Also I want to recommend some interesting audio software which is designed to help sleep.
I have used it to some effect but wouldn't swear by it.
Check out Pzizz.
EDIT: they have changed their page drastically and it didn't used to so difficult to navigate.

I have been to two overnight sleep studies, regular appointments to a sleep/wake disorder clinic and taken about every prescription drug known. I was also told to see a cognitive-behavorial therapist (which I have yet to do). I am currently on Lunestra which helps but leaves a metallic taste in your mouth the following morning (insert joke here).

I've suffered from ungodly horrible insomnia since I was a teenager. I've tried pretty much everything,natural and chemical. Since I also have an insanely high tolerance and 99% of drugs dont work on me at all,my Dr went through a lot trying to find something that DID work on me. Now I take Ambien (usually 1/2 - 1 12.5 mg CR) every night.
I wasnt keen on taking a sleep med every night,but I was going days,sometimes weeks on maybe a cpl hours sleep. I was sick wit one thing or another ALL the time...like 300 days a year I'd have the flu! Since I have a shitty immune system and a chronic,potentially fatal condition I've ha since birth(but sadly didnt get diagnosed properly until just a few years ago,so massive organ damage was already done...and dont worry,its nothing contagious!) we came to the conclusion that it is better for me to take the Ambien and sleep,then be sick all the time!
Ambien or not,I also have insanely active and bizarre dreams...the kind that can make me feel more exhausted when I wake up then I did going to sleep,because my mind never gets a chance to rest. Nothing seems to cure that,unfortunately.

Recently I have started wearing earplugs at night which has helped a lot. It sounds odd but it works for me. Strange.

Gotta say, this is a thread near and dear to my heart, as I regularly function on less than four hours sleep.
I find two things interesting here.
1) An ungodly number of us all have some sort of sleep disorder.
2) I'd never heard of this hygiene of sleep book. I will now be checking out Amazon...
Also, does anybody else have this issue? It seems the more tired I get, the more feral/aggressive I get. Especially in the sack. The wife loves it when I'm sleep deprived, but I always feel like I'm devolving when I'm like this. Seeing as how I'm chronically sleep deprived all the fucking time... well... it's not cool. Hard to explain how weird it feels.

I have been on Seroquel. It made me feel like I needed to eat spoon fulls of sugar straight from the bag. The first 4 "days I took it I slept for more than 18 hours each night. I was on the lowest dosage.
Your results may vary. Zopiclone rules as a sleeping med. And failing that, Mogadon.

Seriously, Chloral Hydrate is the best sleep med I have ever used. The reason I recommend Zopiclone is because I don't need something as strong as Chloral Hydrate. You seem to need something that strong, Tatty. It comes in a liquid and the normal dosage is 5ml. It tastes like raw death though depending on the pharmacy, some of it tastes like "citrus".
Some doctors in Ontario will think it is weird to give it to you, but ask about Chloral Hydrate. The reason is that it woks on a different mechanism than the other pills you tried which don't work for you.

Schedule 1-2 hours more for "sleep time." Anticipate being awake during this expanded period, but not to fret, there are those extra 1-2 hours to eventually fall asleep; thus the stress of not being able to fall asleep is obviated by the cushion of extra time. During this expanded period, there's no TV (anything the expanded period eclipses, should be recorded for future watching). Talk radio, at a barely-audible volume level is allowed unless it becomes annoying, then off it goes. If, after 15 minutes, you're not feeling tired, read some newspapers, magazines, or in a pinch, history. No fiction! Consider a small sleep-inducing snack such as cheese-and-crackers. Consider masturbation; very effective in clearing the mind of the day's outrages. In summary, the night's sleep may be a pastiches of 2-3 hour naps, but it'll be better than fretting at the red LED digital clock given a too-limited time allotment for rest.

So ididn't look back to sse if I posted about seraquel (total failure), but I have realized if I keep the zopiclone to once a week I am not a sobbing mess. ANYWAY I got an old friend clonazepam (klonopin) prescribed to me again. I took this stuff 20 years ago when I was freaking out constantly, but have heard crazy addiction stories. I am on the fence. Thoughts? Andecdotes? Queries?

Yeah I know. He hooked me up with Clonazepam 20 years ago and then in 94. I usually just take them for a bit then stop, but I did voice my concern about it. I have taken a zillion painkillers for my surgeries and have been able to put them down every single time, so I am not too concerned. The post-zopiclone depression is a bitch thoug....

Tatty Ive spoken about this before in another thread, I suffer also. Ive tried Xanax, Klonopin (they suck, I need at least 15-20 2mgs to even feel a slight buzz. And Seroquel is anti psychotic meds, but it does put your ass to sleep, actually coma sleep, so I would stay away from that if I was you.
Someone suggested to me the Ambien/Rozeram cocktai, but Im afraid cause I know all the sleep meds are eventually addictive. I need to go to the doctors, it's getting worst, and taking its toll on me. Its awful when you wake up during the night and toss and turn and especially if your mind is on overtime, you are screwed.
I hope you find something that works for you and if you do, please share it so I can see if I can get it prescribed to me and see what it does for me. Its only the last 3 years that I've had this. Before that Ive never had a problem.
I truly feel bad for anyone suffering from this.
I wish I had someone to write me Diprivan and watch me throughout the night. But I watched Primetime last week when they were talking to a doctor, he showed about 25 bottles in his draw and said that double that would keep a person sleeping for 8 hours straight. That's an awful lot.
A female muslim woman, very pretty who is an anesthesiologist
said that this med should NEVER be taken outside of an hospital setting. Its very very dangerous. It's only good for 10 minute sleeps at a time, so that's why they need to keep adding to the bottle with the drip....and he must be watched all the time.
Conrad Murray is in huge trouble.

Tatty Ive spoken about this before in another thread, I suffer also. Ive tried Xanax, Klonopin (they suck, I need at least 15-20 2mgs to even feel a slight buzz. And Seroquel is anti psychotic meds, but it does put your ass to sleep, actually coma sleep, so I would stay away from that if I was you.
Someone suggested to me the Ambien/Rozeram cocktai, but Im afraid cause I know all the sleep meds are eventually addictive. I need to go to the doctors, it's getting worst, and taking its toll on me. Its awful when you wake up during the night and toss and turn and especially if your mind is on overtime, you are screwed.
I hope you find something that works for you and if you do, please share it so I can see if I can get it prescribed to me and see what it does for me. Its only the last 3 years that I've had this. Before that Ive never had a problem.
I truly feel bad for anyone suffering from this.
I wish I had someone to write me Diprivan and watch me throughout the night. But I watched Primetime last week when they were talking to a doctor, he showed about 25 bottles in his draw and said that double that would keep a person sleeping for 8 hours straight. That's an awful lot.
A female muslim woman, very pretty who is an anesthesiologist
said that this med should NEVER be taken outside of an hospital setting. Its very very dangerous. It's only good for 10 minute sleeps at a time, so that's why they need to keep adding to the bottle with the drip....and he must be watched all the time.
Conrad Murray is in huge trouble.
Is your problem a result of all those years on Wild Kingdom and being repeatedly shot with a tranq gun when you charged their trucks and camera crews. Have you tried legal action against Mutual of Omaha??

Both you and Stylah have commented on the whole -pam addiction. I never crave it when I take it, it just isn't the best for sleeping.
Ambien (zolpidem) is finally approved here (it wasn't for years) but it isn't on the market yet. Too bad. From what I've read and watched on the Jewtube, it looks like the best choice....

Yeah, B, that's what zopiclone is (at least half of it). It's the generic. It is awesome for putting you out and you feel pretty darn refreshed the next day. But both my fam and my GP noticed that I was super down in the dumps after about 2 weeks. Gave me a bit of a scare....

Use them as intended- to regulate and get yourself into some kind of schedule. A day lasts 24 hrs +/-. You have to fit everything into that including time to wind down as well as sleep. If you don't, you will never beat this problem. You say you have no substance abuse problems, so try two beers/drinks/bowls and a sleeping pill you like, or one beer/drink/bowl, or something like that, but more importantly watch your schedule. Try it dude- regulating your time is easier done than taking some fucking chemical whatever it may be.

I appreciate that. I was an insomniac even as a little kid and then worked Graveyards until 7am for 5 years in my 20's and 30's. I was pretty much an every day drinker back then.Working 5pm till close the past few years has probably played a role as well.
I have got the zopiclone to 1 day a week, but I'm tellin ya there are nights when I just cannot shut my fucking brain off. I also get the so-tired-you-can't sleep feeling. We'll see how the next 8 weeks go with rotating the 'pam and zopiclone.....
