The U.S military has them already.I know someone who works for a defense contractor and he tells me the Army has 9 foot endo-suits that are piloted by a soldier inside. They are capable of flipping two tons easily.

He also mentioned EMB'S( Electric Magnetic Beams) that are capable of turning major cities back to the stone age. When explaining how it works, he lost me on negative, positve beams and magnetic shields.

What really intrested me were the Spider Walkers. They are reminicent of the AT-AT Snow Walkers in Empire Strikes Back. They are based on the mechanics of a spiders movements.

He said the Army is holding back on this weaponry for North Korea and should be ready soon. Scary shit.

It is good if they do have this stuff and they hold it back because it wouldn't work on enemies that are already in the stone age

I talked to him for about 30 min. on weapons. He said they are working on laser targeting systems that reflect light off prisims and shit like that.I should've paid attention in science class.

Dude, don't feel bad I did pay attention in my science classes and I doubt I could follow it either, those guys are on another level- physics and organic chem are too much to wrap my head around.

I know for sure that the "sick sticks" depicted in MINORITY REPORT do exist in real life.

Well, those things fry EVERY electric-electronic piece of equipment beyond repair, from computers to vibrators.

And about the exo-skeletons, I doubt they can look cooler than THIS...

Probably "phase-conjugate mirrors". Real science-fiction stuff when I was in school. But it now appears to be practical in the lab? I just Googled and found a bunch of papers from the late 1990s, not one of which I can read. It may well be getting practical; the research may have "disappeared" if the projects got classified.

PHASE CONJUGATE MIRRORS

HANS J. EICHLER and OLIVER MEHL
Technische Universität Berlin, Optisches Institut, Straße des 17. Juni 135, D-10623 Berlin, Germany
E-mail: oliver.mehl@physik.tu-berlin.de

Phase conjugate mirrors are attractive devices to improve the beam quality of lasers. At first, the fundamental properties of phase conjugate mirrors (PCMs) are summarized and a basic mathematical description is given. Degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) facilitates phase conjugation of weak signals and their amplification at the same time, but requires additional pumping beams. In contrast, self pumped phase conjugation is achieved by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in appropriate media. Liquids and gases of high purity as well as solid materials like silica fibers can be used with high efficiency. Solid-state laser systems with average output powers up to 500 W have been equipped with SBS phase conjugate mirrors to compensate for phase distortions in active media.

Here´s a pdf on the subject: http://www.worldscinet.com/jnopm/10/preserved-docs/1001/S0218863501000425.pdf

Yeah, that stuff. A real easy read.

The goal is to fire a laser through a lens to produce a broad beam aimed somewhere near a target (maybe hundreds or thousands of miles away in space). The reflection enters an optical amplifier with a phase-conjugate mirror at the far end. The reflection gets pumped up into a strong enough beam to damage the target, and the mirror means that no particularly good aiming is needed to put 100% of beam energy on the target every time.

That's what they said when trying to get Star Wars funding anyway in the 1980s anyway. ICBMs would seem to move too fast for this. Using it to blind an airplane seems more realistic. The Germans above are trying to do something different: they've discovered a practical mirror and are trying to figure out what happens when it fires.

I kinda like the idea that someone might try to look up phase-conjugate mirrors for an optics class one day and wind up at a hardcore porn site.

The lasers will work. They are all ground based and wont ever leave the atmosphere. The rate these lasers travel, any enemy will be lucky to get one missle out.

If you're gonna spend all that time making a kick-ass robot costume, why would you make the head a stupid dog's head?
