A study finds that about half of personal bankruptcies are for medical reasons. This study is in dispute, so we will see how much slack there is in the final numbers.

There are 60 * 24 = 1440 minutes in a day, so we need 2880 bankruptcies for medical reasons each day to make one every 30 seconds. If half are for medical reasons, we need 5760 bankruptcies per day to make Obama's claim, accepting the disputed study.

Now, I hope you see the President's larger point, about how health care costs are helping cripple the economy. About how we can pick some low hanging fruit, do things both progressives and conservatives agree upon to reduce costs. Find a long term solution that works.
