I don't get why it's an issue who sits on the board of directors as long as the people who are doing the lab work are qualified.

So what if Sharon Mitchell is absent? Does she need to be at the clinic for the tests to work properly?

I understand being irritated with test results being late but what does that have to do with Sharon Mitchell or the board if directors? I'm sure if the clinic had it their way tests would yield instant results.

Also it isn't unusual for the director of a non-profit company to get a salary. Do some research if you don't believe me.
