Craftsman

I thought so too but I read number of reports that Sears sometimes does not honor their warranty for replacement. And there is nowhere where the actually "In Print" warranty policy to be found.

"Snap-on" and Mac hand tools are better than Craftsman. They make limited power tools. I don't think Sears even warrants their power tools lifetime.

Sears is Craftsman. I think that like 90% of the Craftsman sales are done thru sears and other 10% is via independent mom-pop B&M shops. I think that Snop-On Tools are expensive.

Stanley for Hand Tools.

DeWalt or Porter Cable for the rest (except for Milwaukee reciprocating/sawzall).

I have some tools but I want to expand my assortment. I really want to get a quality small screwdriver set, a good utility knife and maybe something else. This is what I have so far:

Alex,

I think this is what you're probably looking for. Excellent craftsmanship, good warranty and precisely geared to your particular needs.

over the past 30 years i have owned mac, matco, craftsman, snap-op.. S-K.. and prolly some others im not thinking of..

As far as warranty goes, you cannot beat sears.. no matter what condition, no matter what age, they will replace it. snap-op and s-k always seem to come up with some excuse then try to sell you something 3x more than your broken shit...

Two things- why is he looking for "good" tools when clearly he is too cheap to pay "good " tool prices.

Also, Like Bravo, I get troubled when Panzer starts looking for power tools

I inherited craftsman tools from my grandfather. Hand tools that are 30, 40, and 50 years old. Also a drill and circular saw he purchased in the late 60's early 70's. They still work well.

I have a lot of Craftsman hand tools- some older than I am, but I wouldn't buy a Craftsman power tool today or even accept it as a gift.

For power tools I look for particular brands depending on the tool. For tools with a cord, Milwaukee makes the best drill, sawz-all and porta-band. For cordless tools I prefer Dewalts. Many people prefer Hitachi for a circular saw but I've had great luck with my Makita. Also had great luck with a Makita reciprocating saw (generic sawz-all).

I would absolutely not buy anything electric- corded or battery powered with a Craftsman or Black and Decker label on it these days with the exception of a Craftsman table saw.

I have too many tools and I have people using them daily and I see what employees can tear up and what lasts and what is easy to repair.

None of this applies to Alex though, as he is just going to assemble crap furniture from Ikea as his most challenging project and that shit comes with the metric allen wrenches needed anyway.

that would imply that he would actually buy new furniture.

i am sure he just hauls away free shit they give away on craigslist and combines it into a tapestry of decorations within his apartment. Haute Panzer, if you will

I just want to buy tools that I will never have to replace in my lifetime. I just want them to work well. I would say low-moderate non-commercial use.

Craftsman will be perfect for your use Alex. They aren't the best there is but they are more than adequate and have the best warranty going for hand tools.

It's possible to build a tiny island hideout or an enema castle with Craftsman tools. I just wouldn't depend on them to build 15 or 20 of them for other clients.

Panzer is too cheap to buy the land needed for his dream house/dungeon/prison/torture chamber/IKEA and cuff links storage facility anyways.
