Yep. The only other guy I ever rooted for as much as Mickey this year, was Robert Downey Jr when he was up for Chaplin. At least he lost to Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. I like Sean Penn, but he has tried to gimmick his was to an Oscar before with I Am Sam. And the unnecessary crying scene in Mystic River, obviously pandering to the Academy. Mickey Rourke, as disturbing as he looks, put his tore his fucking heart out in that film. No other actor could have done the job as well. Half a dozen guys could have done Milk. Oh, one other thing that probably cost Mickey, they say when he was first big he was an arrogant prick and treated a lot of people like shit; those people probably didn't vote for him. Oh well, he's going to be making bank in the sequels to Iron Man and Sin City.

You can also win an Oscar by writing, directing or producing a film which portrays traditional American values and archetypes as evil and/or phony.
For example, remember "American Beauty"? The only normal people in the neighborhood were the two gay guys (Scott Bakula played one of the two). The military dad was only right wing and anti-gay because he couldn't handle that he was a closet gay. And the Annette Benning/Kevin Spacey couple were portaryed as totally shallow and souless because they were focused on careers and money. The warped Hollywood cocksuckers had turned the world upside down: what's bad is actually good, black is white etc.
"Philadelphia" with Tom Hanks was a big Oscar winner too. Hanks was a saint because he had Aids. Corporate America and uncaring straight people were somehow at fault.
