The “Iraqi Fighters” you refer to are mainly killing other Iraqis. The Americans are generally too well protected. The American casualties are the only ones that get reported in the US but 90% to 95% of all casualties from “Iraqi Fighters” are other Iraqis. In the American War of Independence traitors were dealt with but the vast majority of the effort went into defeating the British, not other Americans.

Moreover, it’s still not clear who these “Iraqi Fighters” are. For the most part their targets are Iraqi government employees. Much may be long-repressed revenge, but from the choice of targets I wonder how much the Syrians and Iranians have to do with it.

The Iraqi situation looks more like the French liberation in WW2, where de Gaulle focused on defeating his rivals for post-war power rather than on defeating the Nazis.
