It took me forever to even find a vet who was willing to accept a hamster patient. And even then medical tools aren't made in the proper scale. When Eddie was getting gassed before his lethal injection the doctor had to put the whole gas mask over his body because, well, there just isn't one that is meant to fit a small animal.

A few people have asked me how much it costs to euthanize a hamster. At the regular vets office during normal hours it is about 80-90 dollars including the check up and cremation and so on. At the emergency vet the same thing cost 160 dollars plus a couple of taxi rides across the city.




Where I take my rats, Willowdale Animal Hospital, on Sheppard near Yonge St, they have vets that specialize in small animals. They even have gas masks that fit on the muzzle of rats! Tiny little things.
