While people who work in the industry probably don't find it very interesting, to outsiders like myself it seems fascinating. I know Ed Powers is writing a book about the industry in general which i'm really looking forward to reading. Has anyone on the boards had anything to do with this book or do you know of any other interesting books or documentaries about the workings and the characters of the porn industry

The first book I ever read about the biz was Raw Talent by Jerry Butler. Ahead of its time. Jenna's book was better than I thought it would be. Ron Jeremy's book sucked. Read Prisoner of X:20 Years in the Hole at Hustler Magazine by Allen McDonnell. It's good. Not to get all faggy on you, but this was real good too:

'the other hollywood' by legs mcneil is the most complete, honest, and entertaining history of the porn industry i've ever read. shitheads like darrah should read this book from cover to cover before they even think about opening their stupid mouths.

'prisoner of x' by alan macdonell is a good one too. if you like h.s.t., you will like his style.

There's some great stuff in THE X FACTORY, by Anthony Petkovich, published in 1997 in the UK by Critical Vision/Headpress. It reads like ancient history now, but is very enjoyable and interesting. Lots on Gregory Dark--interview, on the set of Sex Freaks, etc. Interviews with Nici Sterling, Chasey Lain, John Leslie, Lana Sands, Patrick Collins, Brittany O'Connell, Bruce Seven, Kaitlyn Ashley, Krysti Lynn, Jasmine St. Claire gangbang, etc.

Good stuff, and not endless shit on the same old subject or homogenized pap for the "I Like Jenna!" ADT crowd.

I thought a new edition was coming out a few years ago, but I never saw it.

My wife bought me the Ron Jeremy autobiography on clearance as a gag christmas gift. Trying to read it is as painful as watching one of his scenes.

I watched the Debbie Does Dallas documentary as well (another British production). Very well done....

The Dark Side of Porn

It's "Debbie does Dallas Uncovered".

I remember seeing it and it's worth checking out. I'm pretty sure I saw it on one of the online video sites, like google video, or veoh etc.

Oh yeah (can't believe I didn't remember this earlier): If you've seen Boogie Nights, see the John Holmes doc Wadd. You'll see how Anderson lifted exact dialogue and scenes from the original Holmes doc Exhausted . I read a great interview with a person who did not want to be identified on how the original doc makers were super-pissed at Anderson.
I guess some porn 'insiders' were bad-mouthing Boogie Nights for its lack of authenticity, and PT countered with " What the fuck are you talking about? I lifted stuff shot-for-shot from Exhausted. " They were gonna sue, but all the folks involved in the original are now Hollywood successes and don't wanna be ID'd.
The scene with Bob Chinn where Holmes is bragging about blocking his own scenes is worth it by itself....

I'd suggest reading Sex, Lies and Politics, Larry Flynt's book from 4-5 years ago and follow it up with Prisoner of X; it rips apart a lot of the stories Flynt tells if you're into the history of Hustler and Flynt's roles with some of the bigger political scandals.

I didn't see it mentioned, but has anyone read Porno by Irvine Welsh? Its fiction (and the sequel to Trainspotting; haven't read the book but seen the movie) and I haven't got around to it (some friend gave it to me and its buried away). Is it worth reading or a good Trainspotting sequel?
