Was thinking the same. Especially the shot of the car in the garage, with the word MAX on everything. If you imagine a circus clown, you wouldn't assume he goes home to an actual funhouse - decorated in balloons, pinwheels and warped mirrors. That'd be way more bizarre than any antics while at work. You'd imagine his home would be a peaceful and muted escape where he goes to change out of the costume and makeup as fast as possible before the pizza guy shows up.
