The decline in porn magazines as well figures; finding a printer who's willing to do porn is still tough, but its not like ten or twenty years ago where the only printers doing it were mob-connected.
I have worked as an editor in book, newspaper and magazine publishing since 1987. I've never had a job outside publishing. I've worked in the "men's market" since 1994 or so. While some publishers of porn magazines have had "underworld associations," and mostly pretty vague ones (with a few notable exceptions, mostly on the website scam end) I cannot think of one example of a mob-connected magazine printer. That includes those in and out of business. For example, R.R. Donnelley, printer of choice for most of the elite American book publishers, printed Penthouse for DECADES. Printers in New York and Canada print the majority of the porn mags that still exist. I'd like to hear some names. There are many printers who will print adult material, in and out of the USA. (See Taschen Books for mainstream porn.)
I worked in this business ten and twenty years ago. For the most part, the same printers are printing the best-known magazines.
If you're just saying that the ENTIRE union workforce in this country is mob-connected, you might have a point.
