It's not for 'disdain for religion' that he's charged. The charge is more or less 'hatespeech'. It comes down to this: what he says, inspires other people to hate the Islam. It instigates hate, I think, is the proper term.

Him being charged is not typically Dutch, but it is typically European. I foresee a lot of noise at the beginning of the case and a quick and silent ending after that. In September 2009, he can repeat everything he has said in the paat and won't be prosecuted for it. Always the same mechanism here.
