I watched this as I was cleaning, lubing and servicing my wheelchairs.

The show is a awful, despicable, STUPID exploitation of these pathetic people's fucked up lives and their diseases. Let me say first off, don't be fooled by Dr. Drew. The man is a total attention whore...he is a greedy, publicity grubbing arrogant prick, who practices addiction medicine using a combination of la-la land Shiny_happy_people_power_of_positive_thinking bullshit, and draconian rules regarding when and if to use ANY good, fun psycho-active pharmaceuticals (I particularly hate Drew's obstinate rejection of using Methadone when it comes to treating opiate addicts.) Dr. Drew is just a big SNOT.

That said, Steven Adler, and his behavior in these first two episodes of Sober House, pretty much exposes his whole life and what has transpired over the last 20 years. He was kicked out by Slash and AXL and Duff back in 1988 for being TOO FUCKED UP then (and this was while those three were themselves totally fucked up in their own addictions.) In a word, he was too much of a Heroin fiend for the Heroin fiends, and this was back in 1988 no less when DOPE sucked. So after being kicked out, Adler sued in 1989-1990 and won a (relatively) modest settlement of a couple million in exchange for ALL rights and royalties past and present (meaning when you here SWEET CHILD O' MINE on the radio today, Steven Adler gets ZERO royalties)...He blew thru that money in about a year and to this day, after 40+ in-patient rehab stints, drug court, alienating every family and friend he ever had, he still remains totally enslaved to Heroin. His mind and chemistry is so cooked it is obvious...he cannot LIVE without (and does not WANT to live without) being loaded every single day.

Witness the sober house episode....the guy leaves in-patient rehab and 3 days later shows up at this sober living center loaded and prepared to go on another bender...its fucking stupid. His words and especially his actions (spending 4+ hours on the nod trying to "change/undress his clothes) point to a person who JUST wants to do his dope and is unable to live any other way. His selfishness is ingrained to the extent it is as instinctual as breathing is to you and I....

PLUS, this is a VH-1 TV show, so dont tell me that, on some level, this wasnt either planned or secretly hoped for by Dr Drew and the producers (people who have a HUGE interest in the show being perpetuated.) Otherwise, what would you and I be watching if it werent for addicts relapsing and behaving more shamefully than Porn Chicks on Meth? We'd be watching Rodney King and that Skanky pill eating super-model and that fat ugly AMER-IDOL loser from Texas eat barbecue.

It's such a sick, stupid, pointless, exploitive show.
