Obama's margin of victory was high for a Democrat over the last 50 years but lower than all but a couple of Republican margins. Even the Republican margin over Bill Clinton was higher (if my memory is correct): lucky for him there were two Republicans running.

The closeness of the race and a look at the exit polls is what makes me think Obama is running great risks. He's basically gambling that this spending package will rescue the economy or that the Republicans have a hopeless Palin-type candidate in four years. I see nothing but pork in various flavors in the bill and nothing to address the bad debt problems.

I think the concerns of a "socialist" Obama are misplaced. The *real* problem in this regard is the congressional delegation from California.

Obama is a bright who has surrounded himself by people who have been in positions of responsibility before & they know campaign rhetoric does not make good policy. Feinstein and Pelosi do not seem as bright and less interested in avoiding disaster.
