Circuit City's collapse has nothing to do with the recession, other than the precise timing. Without the recession they might have lasted a few more months. Failure was inevitable once they made a policy of firing the best performing store employees in 2007.

The CEO of Circuit City is out of the picture at the this point.
The stores and inventory are owned by the liquidators now, who are more interested in turning a profit than giving consumers a good deal. Indeed I think all store employees report to the liquidator and will get any remaining paychecks from the liquidator, not Circuit City.
