I've learned there's no sense trying to make sense of the list. "Sunny Lane best anal scene" alone confirms it's meaninglessness. May as well be mickey mouse winning every category. Each year I approach with benefit of doubt, but like clockwork AVN slaps reality in the face and present a mere who's who of magazine and booth advertisers in awards list form.
I used to think the AVN spectacle was a joke, but my tone has shifted toward compassion. I've realized industry people take it very seriously, as it lends them some credence of dignity. I see a list made up mostly of shot-out talent living in the shadow of their peaks, and I think of a ninety year old woman visiting the doctor and she's in a nervous rush to get dressed after the awkwardness of the exam.
The unsung hero is the new girl doing her first scene, doing the heavy lifting and keeping it fresh so everyone else can kick back with contracts and the mediocre scene a month that will land the big award next year.
