*A screwdriver antenna is a vertical with a section near the bottom with a coil and some fingers which move up or down the coil as the unit is rotated. It is called a screwdriver because the first such antennas were made with motors from cordless screwdrivers. With a whip on top, the antenna may be remotely tuned to different frequencies by adjusting how much of the coil is shorted by fingers. I use a High Sierra HS1800 with a 10 foot whip.
