If I recall my Durant correctly, he suggests in "Our Oriental Heritage" that marriage only works when it's forced to as economic necessity. In our culture, there is the added element that, for some, there is actually economic advantage to divorcing for the lower person ... who in community property states like CA gets half of what the more economically successful partner has.
Things I'd like to see in the next decade:
1) End of affirmative action. [50 years should be enough].
2) End of community property laws.
3) Equality for fathers in the courts re custody of their children, if they so desire.
