COLFAX, Wash. —
The pornographic film actor known as Jack Venice was given a life sentence for raping a woman at a Washington State University sorority.

Under the sentence he received Friday in Whitman County Superior Court, the 26-year-old native of Houston, Christopher Jack Reid, will be eligible for parole in nine years.

Reid was convicted in October of second-degree rape and three burglary counts.

KRPL reports Reid told the court he is sorry for what happened to the victim but maintains his innocence. His lawyer plans an appeal.

The victim told the court she is afraid of being attacked again and sleeps with the lights on.

Prosecutors say Reid and a WSU student got drunk and broke into several sororities in search of women to co-star in sex videos.

There's Life with parole eligibility, and without. I'd expect that particular state parole board to be (too) lenient, but who knows.

It's common. Plenty of murderers get "Life with parole" and hit the streets in 7-10 at most to murder again. I think the compounded felonies--burglary convictions on top of or coinciding with the rape conviction--pushed this into heavy time.

A refresher. The original complaint was basically:

Police reports say a Washington State student who was sleeping at the Kappa Alpha Theta house awoke early on Sept. 13 to find two men in her room. Both fled. The woman, who is not a member of the sorority, told police she believes she was sexually assaulted in her sleep.

Kyle Schott, 23, a Washington State student, told officers that he watched as Reid "spooned" with the victim and touched her as she slept, according to court papers. Schott said he handed Reid a condom, and the victim said she believed the sound of a condom package being opened may have awakened her, court documents said.

Schott was arrested Friday in Pullman and is free on $100,000 bail. He faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree burglary, two counts of residential burglary and one count of attempted residential burglary.

I see no mention of an actual sex act in the initial report. Is handing someone a condom considered rape? Is spooning? What did the rape kit say? Did the police even use one or was this case won through witness testimony alone?

I believe the guy who turned state's evidence testified to witnessing digital penetration.

This case would have gone nowhere without a lot of testimony about the evening's "spree" and, of course, the other guy turning.

So I am right, no rape kit and only hearsay evidence. What was the BAC of the girl the night before? Did Jack gain entrance through the window or just crash a party? Did the whore say no or was she just too drunk to remember? Her friends weren't in the room and only the dude who dropped the dime was present (no motive to lie there).

The defense pointed to DNA evidence from the condom, a tampon, and the victim's rape kit that did not match Reid. But a forensic scientist testified that the inconclusive DNA tests could not rule out Reid or Schott.

According to reports, Reid and Schott first stopped at a house party, where a drunken Reid allegedly boasted again about his porn profession and offered a resident $500 to use his bed to shoot a video. The two were thrown out after Reid pulled out his penis.

Schott said he and Reid then prowled the WSU campus, breaking into three sorority houses and a frat house. The sexual assault took place at the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at around 4 a.m.

Schott testified that he and Reid found a woman asleep in a bedroom at the Kappa Alpha Theta house, and Reid boasted that he could get the woman to have sex with him. Schott said that he goaded Reid by saying he couldn't get the woman to do it.

"[Reid] explained this is what he was looking for,” Schott said. “I was kind of reluctant, but he seemed used to the situation."

According to Schott, Reid fondled and spooned the sleeping woman and then asked him for a condom.

The victim told jurors she woke up on the floor to the sound of a condom wrapper being torn. She felt someone touching her genitals and turned around to see two men in the room - one of them, she said, was Reid.
"When I rolled over, I saw his face," she said. "I can't forget that face."
While Reid may not have had intercourse with the victim, Washington state law defines an act of penetration as rape. According to Schott, Reid may have penetrated the victim with his finger or his penis. Schott admitted to touching the woman sexually himself.

"There hasn’t been a day since it happened that I haven’t felt sorry, not for myself, but for her, her whole sorority and the whole situation," Schott said. "I had never been in a situation like that. It was just stupidity and curiosity that drove me to do so."

When the victim awoke, the two men fled. She reported the rape at about 4:30 a.m.

Bugbee insisted that Reid had left Schott before the incident at Kappa Alpha Theta. The defense claimed a third man, former WSU student Colin Davis, was the one in the victim's bedroom with Schott.

Davis admitted on the witness stand that he was with Reid and Schott at Stubblefield's on the night of the rape, but said he left them at the bar and went home drunk. Cell phone records showed that Davis did not contact Schott or Reid after returning home.

The defense pointed to DNA evidence from the condom, a tampon, and the victim's rape kit that did not match Reid. But a forensic scientist testified that the inconclusive DNA tests could not rule out Reid or Schott.

Bugbee told jurors that Reid was unfairly charged in the case because of his association with the adult industry. The defense attorney argued that Schott had falsely implicated Reid to cover up for his friend, Davis.

"Chris Reid is a scapegoat, and he’s a darn good scapegoat,” Bugbee said. "He had no film crew. He talks a big game, but he had no intent to do scenes in Pullman. Despite what he said, it’s just his way to get in and meet people."

Sounds like the rape kit can't rule out anyone in the house. Here is another possible scenario: Jack is the last man in on the train and she wakes up humiliated, changes her mind, and Schott goes along with the lie to keep himself out of trouble. Jack's defense makes up a bullshit story because they have nothing to refute the circumstantial evidence.

Credible in court is not the same as plausible. Did Jack vacuum the bed before he fled, or the carpet? No way. If he was in the same bed he left hairs. Either the Police weren't doing their jobs, didn't deploy the rape kit correctly, or they were pushing the case in another direction. I'm sure Jack did just what his lawyer told him to do whether that lawyer was competent or not, time will tell.
