We brits don't have pawn shops. Exactly what are they are how do they operate? From the TV shows you sort of sell them your goods, they give you money- but you can buy them back (I guess minus a fee?)

Also it might be noteworthy that some pawn brokers deal only with jewelry/gold/that sort of thing. And others will buy almost anything. The last one I went to had everything from ukuleles to old Nintendo games to high school text books.

There are used record shops, clothing shops, book stores and so on that operate in pretty much the same way.

It may make more sense to think of them as "consignment" shops.

We have tons of pawn shops in the UK...both the traditional kind with the 'three golden balls' sigil that mainly deal in jewelry and expensive watches, and the more downmarket ones like Cash Converters and their ilk.

Give it some time. At the rate Britain is importing niggers and arabs, you'll have pawn shops and pay day loan stores on every London street corner before long.

I love pawn shops for finding somkin deals on old guitars and shit... unfortunatly i moved where its all white people and there isn't one pawn shop anymore:(
