He did that because that guy was going after Astor. I don't think he'd necessarily go after pedophiles. His main target is people that kill.



In the books that the show is based on Dexter's Dark Passenger actually has a special preference for killing people who harm children and early on states several times that he moves them to the top of his list whenever possible. In the books Rita and the kids are much much more severely abused/traumatized by her husband than in the TV series and as a result of seeing their mother being tortured and raped for the earliest part of their lives are little serials killers in waiting. Cody having his own dark passenger and torturing animals and wanting to kill with Astor as an accomplice who likes to watch Cody work and helps cover for him. Dexter takes the kids under his wing and starts to try and teach them Harry's Code.

They touch on Dexters dislike for people who harm children in the very first episode of the series. His first victim is a minister that conducts a boys choir. Dexter goes so far as to dig up the child victims bodies to display for the ritual as opposed to just using pictures and videos like he does for his later projects in the series.
