Yeah, the feared "subway ass" phenomenon you could suffer from sitting on the wrong seat/bench at the wrong time, will be cut way back.

How much do these new cars cost? Or to retrofit the old ones?
At a time when they're cutting service left and right and proposing tolls on the East River bridges in order to prevent a fare hike I don't see how the MTA could get away with it.
Though I do agree with Charlie about the air quality from the seated position.

Ah, it doesn't matter. As you know Jim, the MTA always has at least three sets of books, and the last two are cooked MEDIUM WELL or WELL DONE. The accountants did not receive their degrees at Smith & Wollensky, but this allows all of management to have Caribbean compounds and Tuscan villas. And if the shit hits the fan, POTUS will just print more money and bail 'em out. It's all good, so don't you worry. Fares will be $5 by 2010 and rivers of poop will flow on all platforms and especially in the new seatless cars!

That would be me, but I only spread the legs so 5 large shopping bags could fit in inbetween them.
