I just got a letter from my ISP saying my bandwidth is now capped at 60gb a month.

Along with that there was a monthly breakdown. In august I used more then 120gb and September around 100gb.

Can any of you folks recommend any kind of monitoring software?

Also changing ISPs right now isn't a good option. I have my phone plan through the same place and it is exceptionally good.

Not sure yet. The letter just gives me the offer of paying $1.50 for every GB I go over starting in the new year.

Maybe you sent the wrong person a PM...And he has gotten into your computer and he is fucking with you...

You should rage against the machine on this, fuck your phone service, switch ISPs. Basically the cable companys sucked off every politician so they could deliver data services to your house. Swearing it won't limit competition. Well, what's happening is that now that they've become quite dominant in the market and people like NetFlix, iTunes have streaming movies, they want to limit your access to those entertainment options by capping bandwidth. If you don't change providers you are letting corruption win.

And Tony, I totally appreciate your righteous indignation. That is pretty much how I feel. Though I am not sure how ISP policies differ between Canada and the US these days.

wow.. thats fucked up.. and im pissed bout comcast capping us to 250 a month.. 60 is less than a week, between porn, music and tv shows i do 10gb a day normally fuckers shouldn't offer a service then change it

Looks like giants Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T and others are starting to experiment with this. I guess they will test the waters and see how many people scream and then start this wholesale. Then they can offer tiered services and make a bigger bundle off those who want "unlimited" service. A way to kill net neutrality I guess. Squeeze the fuckers and make them pay to get bandwidth.

What do big cooperations do? They must have some sort of plan. Big Brother watching! Next they'll be telling us how many phone calls we can make even though we are paying the monthly bill!

How much do you watch and download to go over? I've never gotten a letter from Comcast. But I don't do much online though.

My ISP caps my broadband speed but not the amount of gig's used. I have no interest in watching movies or such, I have a tv for that, so it's really not a problem. Plus it was the only service I could get out here besides satellite.
