Australia = revisionist feel-good propaganda that began with the premise of trying to shed some light on certain dark unspoken histories like the treatment of Aborigines in earlier days, but to get anyone more than art film hippies to go see it they injected some big-name actors, silly love story, hugely exaggerated Darwin bombing premise, etc.

To get a bit more serious about Australia, "Rabbit Proof Fence" is better grounded in historic reality.
