I have plenty of intermarried relatives whose spouses didn't convert and who didn't raise their kids with any specific religion.

I have cousins who married in the Catholic Church. I've seen them marry with both officials. I've seen them have separate ceremonies. My brother used a Unitarian minister.

If a specific Jew required that his or her spouse convert, that is his/her choice ... and that of his potential mate. Usually that is the requirement of a child whose parent is pushing that the spouse be Jewish.

But, as is the case with most Jewish intermarriages, the children usually are functionally if not outright Christian, since that is the majority culture.

Or do you think products from such marriages like Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Maggie Gyllanhaal, Kate Hudson and Jennifer Connelly, etc., will be lighting the menorah next month??

Please ... assimilation and intermarriage is the "bane" of Judaism. The genes go on. The religious practice doesn't. Even Cherish "Milton" claims to have some "Jewish" in her ethnicity.


Conversion to Judaism isn't easy. Jews aren't recruiting anyone. The proper rabbinic method is actually to deny the "applicant" for at least 3 times before sending the person to classes.

It's stupid to convert to Judaism in general. It's not like Islam or Christianity. You don't have to be a Jew to "be saved" or whatever.

All people are B'nai Noach, Children of Noah, and thus are bound by Noah's covenant with God and must obey 7 rules or commandments. Jews, as God's Chosen People and/or moral example, have agreed to obey 613 rules or commandments.

So it's actually easier to satisfy God by NOT being a Jew.



Do me a favor. Name me a time in the last say 1500 years someone was executed for not converting to Judaism. Wish I could say the same for its universal derivatives.



And, for the record, like many Jews worldwide, I oppose the crazed religious right of Israel. Many, many Israelis oppose them as well. I see little if any difference between these annoying pests and the Taliban or America's Christian right. They are all assholes.

But, at the moment, neither those taking literally the granting of Canaan or the viewers of the 700 Club are taking hostages and killing them.


AND, if they were, there would be loud denouncement from today's left and center practitioners of Judaism and Christianity.

Seems not so for Islam ....
